Gearing up for travel in 2021 with vlogs

Once upon a time, if you were planning a vacation adventure, you’d likely spend hours researching it—buying travel books from Fodor’s Travel or Lonely Planet, asking friends who’ve taken similar trips, as well as surfing online for tour operators, hotel, hostel or campground rating sites and places to sightsee, shop and eat at once you get there. It was often exhaustingly time-consuming and, even when you were ready to pack your bags, you were never quite sure what to expect once you reached your destination.

Then travel vlogs were born. “Vlog” stands for video blog or video log, a type of blog where most of the content is in video format. So, a travel vlog is a video blog created by intrepid travellers, documenting their experiences.

With our hope that travel gears up back to normal later this year, here are some of our favourite travel vloggers to guide you around the world when the time is right:

Hey Nadine: One of the top female travel vloggers on YouTube, Nadine shares her fashion, food and entertainment travel experiences in Russia, Turkey, France and beyond, including useful travel tips and hacks.

Mark Wiens: If you love food and travel, Mark is your guy. With currently 1.5 billion views of his videos, Mark has explored the world from Pakistan and India to Thailand, China and Japan. Some of his most popular vlogs are street food tours but he reports on high-end delicacies as well.

Soniastravels: Described as a female travel MacGyver, Sonia has toured around the world from Milan to Paris and Miami, offering great travel tips, including how to keep your valuables safe at the beach, how to survive long flights and what to do about swollen ankles!

Sailing La Vagabonde: If sailing is your passion or your dream, Australian couple Riley and Elayna vlog everything you want to know about boat life and sailing around the world.

Did you know? Vloggers are #1

Travel vloggers attract nearly half of all travel channel subscriptions on YouTube, while travel brands like hotels and tours only get 19%. Why? People trust amateurs and believe they’re more authentic. (Source)

  1. I don’t agree with any encouragement for travelling ,because it is pushing our hopes high, when we know we won’t be out of the woods with Covid ,for a lomg while yeted

  2. Nobody is scheduling travel outside of CANADA or from Province to province til
probably after the summer this year. The Federal government strongly suggests you
DO NOT plan ANY travel…and if you have booked…cancel.

    1. No offence, but vlogging/blogging is hilarious! no different than podcasts which are declining and people are finding it harder and harder to actually make any $ from doing this.

    2. Wow! Well you’ve got SO MUCH life experience that you don’t need to travel! Live to hear your life stories!❤️

  3. As a regular taxpaying senior who has not committed any crimes, I am not eligible for the Covid-19 shot. I therefore will not be able to travel this year.

  4. I find a great company to travel with follow on social media is Tours of Exploration. There are many great written travel blogs created by their staff and fellow travellers.

  5. I’d like to travel but I have mobility issues and right now with covid-19 lock downs, I’m not even able to receive the mobility devices I need.

  6. Why would you make THIS your topic?? WHO is traveling? People should not, vaccine roll out is far too slow to consider travel this year. Not to mention the unemployed or loss of income and businesses for many. Who is in charge of these decisions?? How about vlogging staycations??? Be a little more aware.

  7. Have seen a few, but not impressed. The location should be the star of the show, not the Vloger. Sound quality not great. Very little useful information. And you can’t ask any questions if you want any information. Will stick to Trip Advisor – those reviewers are great to get specific information from, for any location.

  8. Still find it a little early to be making any travel plans. I don’t want to jinx worldwide pandemic recovery. Once I get the vaccine I’ll start to think about it more, but can’t see making any firm plans before the end of this year. I think it terribly selfish to do so and nobody is obsessed with travel as much as I am.

  9. How do you become a travel blogger? Can you get paid for it? Is there a job where you can travel and test out destinations and hotels and tours for a living?

  10. Well, travel has been on our minds these last two months. We had planned and paid for our trip to Hawaii last May which was cancelled and reimbursed for everything except the Air bnb we had paid in full for and were told by the owner “he had paid out over 50 people and we should go try to get the money back through our credit card. So now we’re planning that trip again for May 2022 and going the more expensive route. (No Air bnb this time). So we’re hoping all is clear next year. We’ve done our homework.
